Obituary

WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Chester Oliver Raymond Sr., 91, of Wakefield, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, in Ironwood.

Chester was born on March 5, 1929, on beautiful Lake Gogebic, a son of Frank Oliver and Vera Idessa (Cook) Raymond.

Chet proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a corporal on Feb. 18, 1953, and received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.

Chet is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Loretta; three sons, Chester Jr., Wakefield, Dale, Lewiston, Idaho, and James (Stephanie), Wakefield; two daughters, Peggy (Jay) Chestnut, Gresham, Oregon, and Penny (Mark) Mehlhorn, Halsey, Oregon; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Franklin, Gerald and Gary; three sisters, Dorothy Hemming, Sally (Michael) Cooney and Carolyn Kariainen; and many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

A celebration of Chet's life will be held at a later date.
