Obituary

BESSEMER, Mich. – Charles Francis Tauer, 83, a lifelong resident of Bessemer, (Anvil), passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2026, with his loving family at his side.

Chuck was born on Jan. 10, 1943, in Bessemer, a son of Joseph and Leona (Sobieski) Tauer. He attended Ramsay School and A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer.

Chuck worked at Milwaukee Tool in Milwaukee for about five years and spent time out West with his brother, Johnny, doing what he loved, logging. He later owned C&J Logging with his brother, Joey.

In 1971, Chuck married his “womens,” the love of his life, Gladys Chiapuzio. Along with Gladys came her son, Gary, who he immediately loved like his own and nobody better tell him different. Later they were blessed with two daughters, Cindy and Wendy.

Chuck loved the “bush.” Out there everything made sense to him, the rhythm of the wind in the trees, the steady buzzes of the chain saws and the hums of the equipment. He was the roughest, toughest old oak amongst them, however with the biggest heart you’d find. Chuck was one of a kind that was loved by every generation from his own to younger than his children… a legend. Everyone young and old heard stories of Chuck Tauer.

Chuck loved to have fun and he knew how to do it, and do it well!

Chuck is survived by three children, Gary, Cindy (Andrew) and Wendy (TJ); three grandchildren, Kaylee, Dane and Garette; five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Joey, Mike, James, Roman (Cathy) and Walter (Stacey); two sisters and his brother-in-law, Mary and Terry (Mark); along with generations of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Gladys, on Nov. 13, 2014; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, John and Dave (Billi), Lois and Donna; and a sister, Tina.
