WESTON, Wis. – Charles G. Gossen, 91, a longtime resident of Lake Gogebic, Mich., died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital in Weston.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1921, in Elcho, the son of Jacob and Frances (Bluchiers) Gossen. Charles attended A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer, Mich.
He joined the armed forces in 1942. Charles served in World War II and the Korean War as a non-commissioned officer, and retired after 20 years of service.
He was employed by White Pine Copper Co., in White Pine, Mich., and for Langer Equipment Co., in Hibbing, Minn., and retired in 1983.
On Jan. 13, 1943, Charles married Geraldine M. "Gerry" Richards, in San Diego.
He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Gerry; a son, Charles L., Ironwood, Mich.; a granddaughter, Gerilyn Ahlers, Cincinnati; and a great-granddaughter, Tilia Ahers, Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and several siblings.
There will be no visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9, at 1 p.m., at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Marenisco, Mich., with the Rev. Ben Hasse, celebrant.
Following the Mass, military rites will take place at the church under the auspices of Marenisco American Legion Post 523, Wakefield (Mich.) American Legion Geroux Post 11 and the Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 Honor Guard.
A reception will be held at the Marenisco Town Hall following the military honors.
