Obituary

IRONWOOD, Mich. – Carmen M. Lukach, 91, formerly of Bessemer, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood.

Carmen was born on March 4, 1921, in Alpha, the daughter of John and Emma (Elsner) LaChapelle. She came to this area with her parents and siblings in 1935 from Florence, Wis. Carmen graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer in 1940.

On Nov. 26, 1942, she was united in marriage to Nicholas M. Lukach of Bessemer at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1966.

Carmen was employed by the Bessemer Dime Store prior to her marriage, and after the death of Nick, she worked for the Powderhorn Lodging Association with her sister, Lenore, for several years.

Carmen was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer and the Ladies Guild.

She was a loving and caring person, and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Carmen is survived by three children, Ann Marie (Thomas) Parker, Hardin, Mont., Gerald (Christine) Lukach, Phillips, Wis., and Karen (Tim) Williams, Oregon, Wis.; five grandchildren, Terri (Joe) Ellinger, Albany, Wis., Scot (Jen) Williams, Oregon, Melissa (Nick) Adams, Rockford, Ill., and Lonnie and Ryan Lukach, both of Bessemer; seven great-grandchildren, Caelyn Rose Adams, Rockford, Calvin and Jack Williams, both of Oregon, Anna and Logan Ellinger, both of Albany, and Kyler and Nicholas Lukach, both of Bessemer; three sisters, Margaret Picoldi, Wakefield, Lenore Corullo, Bessemer, and Dorothy (Norbert) Kopecko, Richmond, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Carmen was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Nicholas A., on Jan. 24, 1976; three brothers, Jack, Vincent and Francis LaChapelle; and two sisters, Della Aspinwall and Mae Brentar.

Out of respect for Carmen's wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ben Hasse, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and burial will take place in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer, in the spring.

A lunch will be served in Father Swoboda Hall at the church following the Mass.
