BESSEMER, Mich. – Betty J. Wiemeri, 98, of Bessemer, formerly of Ironwood Township, died peacefully Sunday afternoon, Aug. 30, 2026, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield, after a brief illness.

The former Betty Dorpat was born on April 1, 1928, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, a daughter of Frederick and Gladys (Carlson) Dorpat. As a child, she lived between Ironwood and Milwaukee. Betty attended Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, Wisconsin, and graduated in 1945.

In October 1955, she married Ralph A. Wiemeri in Bessemer. Ralph preceded her in death on July 8, 2010.

Betty was employed as a nurse’s aide at Westgate Nursing, Rehabilitation and Assisted Living Community (formerly Hautamaki’s Rest Haven) in Ironwood.

She is survived by six sons, Peter, Ralph Jr., Loren “Porky,” Chris, Duane and Dan; two daughters, Wendy and Bonnie; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fred, Dwight and Douglas; a sister, Joan; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Betty was predeceased by her parents.

Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service.

Burial will take place next to her husband at Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Gogebic Medical Care Facility for their excellent care of Betty during her time there. A special thank you is offered to Betty’s great-granddaughter and home health aide, Maleah Maki, who went over and beyond her call of duty.
