WATTON, Mich. – Betsy Bennett, 77, of Watton, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, in Hubbell.

Betsy was born in 1947, in Negaunee, to Toivo and Lempi Kanniainen of Covington.

Her interests and hobbies included knitting, bird watching, hunting, trapping and especially traveling to Alaska and Canada where she enjoyed watching Polar Bears, building inukshuks (rock statues), photography and more than anything the mountains. Betsy had a love for animals, especially the dogs she enjoyed so much through the years.

She was a stay-at-home mom until she began her working career at Celotex in L'Anse where she worked for 26 years before retiring.

Betsy's love for family and friends was extraordinary. She always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She went to great lengths to ensure her mother and favorite Aunt Helmi were comfortable and always taken care of. Also, much to the embarrassment of her children, she loved to show off her skills dancing the twist and mashed potato in the living room to the classics.

Betsy is survived by her husband, Roger; a son, Bob (Kathy), Laurium; a daughter, Sondra (Jason), Amherst, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marie and Susie; and a brother, Steven.

The family is honoring her life in a private graveside service at the Sidnaw Cemetery. The Rev. Ted Trudgeon will officiate.
