Obituary

IRONWOOD, Mich. – Arvid H. Anderson, 80, a longtime resident of Ramsay, died peacefully Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood, with his family at his side.

He was born on July 30, 1932, in Bessemer, the son of Harold S. and Svea I. Anderson. Arvid attended Ramsay School and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer in 1950.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 10, 1954.

On Jan. 29, 1955, Arvid married Bernadine T. Chayka at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer, Wis.

He was superintendent of the Bessemer Township Water Department in Ramsay for 33 years, and retired in May 1989.

Arvid was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield.

He is survived by a son, Dale (Judy), Hurley, Wis.; a daughter, Claire (Frank) Jewess, Ramsay; six grandchildren, Heidi Anderson, Luke (Carrie) Anderson, Stefanie Johnson, James Jewess, Jessica Anderson and Jason Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Trenton Johnson and Paige Anderson; a cousin, Arlene (David) Young; and two nieces, Karen (Michael) Lakotos and Laural (Ronald) Kostac.

Arvid was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernadine, on April 15, 2012; and a grandson, Jeremiah Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 14, from 10 to 11 a.m., with the honor guard beginning at 10:15 a.m., at Lakeside Memorial Chapel in Wakefield, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Frank Kordek will officiate.

Following the service, military rites will take place at the funeral home under the auspices of Wakefield American Legion Post 11 and Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 Honor Guard.

Rite of Committal and burial will take place in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer, in the spring.
