WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Anthony J. “Tony” Trolla, 98, of Wakefield, died on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at home.
Tony was born on July 23, 1927, in Wakefield, son of the late Middio and Pacifica (Ferrori) Trolla. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1945.
Tony started working as a pin setter at Lake View Bowling Alley in high school. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving for two years. He received the Victory Medal in World War II. He then worked at the Peterson Mine and White Pine Mine. Tony ended his working career in construction as a welder for the original Local 806. He was union president for many years and taught welding to new apprentices. He also held a plumbing license. Tony was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In 1951, he married Margaret Kremposki. She preceded him in death on May 30, 1980.
Fishing at his Lake Gogebic cottage and watching sports were his two favorite pastimes. In his younger days, Tony played many sports, and even scrimmaged with the Green Bay Packers. He played backgammon daily.
Survivors include a son, Joseph, a daughter, Barbara (John) Siira and his daughter-in-law Bonnie Trolla, all of Wakefield; his brother-in-law, Ronald (Geraldine) Kremposki, Ironwood; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa A.; two sons, Anthony G. and James E.; a granddaughter, Tina Gscheidle; two brothers, Joseph and John; three sisters, Margaret (Francis) Johnson, Mary Trolla and Anna Trolla; two brothers-in-law, George (Freda) Kremposki and Gerald (Irene) Kremposki; two nephews, Greg Trolla and Randy Kremposki; a niece, Mary Kremposki; and a very special friend, Donna Colberg.
Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 26, from 10 to 10:45 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 407 Ascherman Ave., in Wakefield, with the honor guard beginning at 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Christian Flagstadt, celebrant.
Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield, with a military graveside service under the auspices of Wakefield American Legion Geroux Post 11 and Wakefield VFW Post 9084 Honor Guard, assisted by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team.
Memorials may be made in Tony's memory to any military service organization.
