BESSEMER, Mich. – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alan James "Big Al" Favero, 37, of Bessemer, on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Alan was born July 2, 1986, in Ironwood.

He is survived by his father, James; two children, Hailey and Aiden; his fiancée, Sara; a brother, Scott; his grandma, Gloria Simmons; and numerous other family members.

He was welcomed into Heaven where he was reunited with his mom, Linda; his grandpa, George; his grandma, Stephanie; and his grandpa, Ray Simmons.

Al was employed as an underground miner, had a love for the outdoors, enjoyed snowmobiling and loved his family very much.

He fought long and hard after being diagnosed with Stage IV peripheral T-cell lymphoma on July 28, 2023. Big Al is looking down and watching over all of us as he is, "On to the next big job."

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9:30 a.m., at the St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 210 E. Iron St., in Bessemer, with the Rev. Dominic Agyapong, celebrant.

A luncheon will be served at the St. Sebastian School Cafeteria immediately following the Mass.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to his medical team at Essentia Health - St. Mary's Medical Center Oncology Department in Duluth, Minnesota, the Northwest Wisconsin Cancer Center in Ashland, Wisconsin, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Beacon Ambulance, the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department, Bessemer Volunteer Fire Department, Aspirus Ironwood Hospital Emergency Department and the Life Link flight crew.
