WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Ellen V. Mears, 94, a longtime resident of Marenisco, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Feb. 11, 1918, in Peru, Wis., the daughter of Emil and Ella P. (Hanson) Wrolstad. Ellen was proud of her Norwegian heritage. She graduated from Rosholt, (Wis.) High School. Ellen continued her education and became a licensed beautician.
On Feb. 3, 1940, she was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Mears in Indiana. They made their home in Detroit, central Wisconsin, Mercer, Wis., and finally Marenisco.
Ellen was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Marenisco. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, music, dancing and riding the “little blue bus” up the line. Ellen had a great appreciation for nature and loved to walk.
Ellen is survived by three daughters, Ellen Kay (John) Ramsay, Duluth, Minn., Martha Marquard, Washburn, Wis., and Mary (Don) Kroiss, New London, Wis.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Elna Mears and Elaine Mears, both of Mercer; many nieces and nephews; numerous friends; and special little dog, Gracie Rose.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth, on Oct. 18, 1993; three brothers and a sister; and a nephew and niece.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Lakeside Memorial Chapel in Wakefield, with the Rev. Steven Hyvonen officiating.
Committal services and burial will take place in Marenisco Cemetery.
A reception will be held at the Marenisco Town Hall following the cemetery service.
